Making Connections Introduction

This morning, we got together with Miss Abbott’s (Mrs. Kalman’s) class to learn about our new reading comprehension strategy Making Connections.

First, we talked about the word CONNECTION and brainstormed what it means.

Next, we looked at three pictures and discussed what these pictures make us think of.

After, we discussed why “good readers” make connections when reading.

Finally, I modeled how to make a text-to-self connection to a commercial for a laundry detergent.

Over the next few weeks, we will be learning more about different types of connections and how to make thoughtful and meaningful connections that help us better understand a text.
