Mental Math – Choose a Strategy

Today in Math, we reviewed our mental math strategies for adding. 

  

After, I gave each student an addition sentence card; students took turns placing the cards on strategy plates to identify which mental math strategy they would use to find the sum. After, I asked a different student to explain why the first student placed their card on a particular strategy plate. This activity helped students apply their knowledge of mental math strategies and to  practise explaining their mathematical choices and thinking.
