Mindful Seeing

Today we began to learn about mindful seeing. To begin I asked the students the following questions:

The students learned that mindful seeing is using your eyes to learn about the world around you. I gave the example of watching a student yawn and know that he is feeling tired without even talking to him.

Then we played a game of I Spy  in which we used mindful seeing to give clues and make guesses; we gave clues like “I spy something that is soft” and the students then began to guess soft objects. After, we discussed how we knew these items were soft without even feeling them – we identified that we were all using mindful seeing to make the clues and guesses.
