Counting Money

Today we learned how to counting money using pennies and nickels. Although pennies are not in circulation in Canada anymore, it is still important for students to understand the concept of “a cent”. 

To support our counting, some students used a hundreds chart to help them skip count. For example, when given the following coins…


…students learned to start with the highest valued coin (nickel) and skip count, then to use the next coin (penny) to continue counting. We placed the coins on the hundreds chart to help track our counting.
